This years musical Xanadu, the hilarious, Tony nominated parody of the 1980s Olivia Newton John cult film. The fun begins when a beautiful Greek goddess descends from Mount Olympus to inspire a young artist. The music if by Jeff Lynne of the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), including "Strange Magic" and "Evil Woman" among many other toe-tapping hit songs.
Frankfort’s Red Barn Summer Theatre will present the musical comedy XANADU for two weeks beginning Thursday, July 10th, sponsored by Encompass Credit Union. Based on the cult classic movie of the same name, the show features memorable songs by Jeff Lynne of Electric Light Orchestra (“Evil Woman, All Over the World”) and beautiful ballads by Olivia Newton John’s producer/songwriter John Farrar (“Suddenly” and “Have You Never Been Mellow.”)
A funny and nostalgic look back at the eighties. XANADU is the story of a Greek muse named Kira (Cassidy Mae Benullo) who leaves Mount Olympus to inspire a struggling sidewalk artist named Sonny Malone (Ben Brickner) to create the world’s first roller disco. Red Barn Artistic Director Michael Taylor directs the show, Music Direction is by Dena Seifert, and Sound Design is by Jeremy Mang. XANADU was written by Douglas Carter Bean, Music & Lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar.
XANADU. Red Barn Summer Theatre. July 10th-13th and July 16th-20th. Tickets can be purchased at www.redbarntheatre.net or by contacting the Box Office at 765-659-1657.
